Nacho Cano (Madrid, 1963) says that organizing his legal affairs has taken him almost more time lately than organizing his artistic affairs. Since he thanked Isabel Díaz Ayuso for keeping the theaters open during the pandemic, he says, his life has been a constant struggle. "Now I have a team of lawyers who can focus on all the boring mediocre people who seem to have nothing to do except mess with me; they could do something creative, like invent a recipe or find a shortcut to walk the Camino de Santiago." The sharpest point of that fundamental triangle in the history of Spanish music, the group Mecano (which he formed with his brother José María and Ana Torroja), gets involved in all kinds of trouble, both political and artistic. "Ibiza Paradise," premiering these days at the Callao Cinemas in Madrid, belongs to the latter. It is, as he defines it, a "dinner show," an experience that combines music and gastronomy. "In 2005, I met a character, the Viking, a Dutchman who came to Ibiza during the years when the hippies discovered the island and who managed Café Pereyra. It was a movie theater that closed, and in the back, he set up a live music café-bar that became a landmark on the island." An island Nacho Cano knows very well. "I went to play with Mecano in 1982 and I haven't stopped going since.
