Aging with Spinal Cord Injury: Bone Health, Osteoporosis & Aging
In this Aging with a Spinal Cord Injury session, we focused on bone health, osteoporosis and aging. Dr. Cathy Craven and Dr. Anita Kaiser from University of Toronto/University Health Network will share a short presentation and answer questions submitted by our members. About Dr. Cathy Craven, BA, MD, FRCPC. MSc, FASIA, FCAHS Cathy is the University of Toronto/University Health Network Cope Family Chair in Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Rehabilitation Health Systems Innovation, Medical Director of the Spinal Cord Rehabilitation Program and Senior Scientist at KITE Research Institute within University Health Network. She is Professor in the Department of Medicine at the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto, with clinical and research expertise in health services and medical rehabilitation of sublesional osteoporosis after spinal cord injury www.cravenlab.ca. She has published over 300 articles on related topics and obtained 28M CAD in research funding as a primary investigator (ORCID 0000-0001-8234-6803). She is a voracious reader and enjoys kayaking with her husband, son and labrador retrievers River and Mica. About Dr. Anita Kaiser, BSc, MSc, PhD Dr. Anita Kaiser is a Scientific Associate with the Neural Engineering and Therapeutics Team at KITE, Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, University Health Network. She is an Instructor in Applied Disability Studies at Brock University and an Adjunct Lecturer in the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Toronto. Dr. Kaiser completed a BSc in Applied Chemistry and Biology at Toronto Metropolitan University, followed by a MSc and PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Toronto. Her research interests are focused in neurorehabilitation and activity-based therapy in individuals living with spinal cord injury. Dr. Kaiser has been the Research Chair for the Canadian Spinal Research Organization since 2005 and a founding member of the North American Spinal Cord Injury Consortium. She has been living with a spinal cord injury for nearly 30 years and has mentored over 80 individuals with spinal cord injury through SCI Ontario.
