What's faster - red or blue? Snetteton Track Day, 8th April 2025

8 minutes of fun from Snetterton. The excellent April weather forces me into packing the bike into the van and another fairly long drive up to Snetterton. After a slightly cold start, the day has turned out beautifully bright and sunny. This is the final session of the day and surprisingly my best times of the day, still not super fast but plentifully enjoyable. There are a few other bikes on track but I get some good empty space. Early on a blue R1 passes me whilst I'm making my way past a CB500. This gives me the opportunity to solve the existential dilemma: are red bikes faster? Well of course they are, but the theory has to be tested... . Bike: Yamaha R1 2007 model, ex-BSB 2008 superstock series: race kit, power commander, traction control & quick shifter; 175 Bhp at the rear wheel. Tyres: Metzeler TD slicks Gearing: 16:45 (vs 17:45 standard, reading +6% on mph!) Group: Intermediate With thanks to MSV track days for another excellent event.
