Camping In A HEATWAVE On The Hottest May Day On Record | Catgill Farm

In this episode we are at Catgill Farm just outside Skipton in the Yorkshire Dales — our favourite campsite from last year and the first one we’ve come back to for a second time. This is Simon’s 40th birthday weekend and we brought the whole family — brothers, mums, cousins, nephews, nieces, the full lot. Oh — and it was the hottest May bank holiday on record. Thirty degrees. The hottest day of the year. We spend the first day in Skipton. Focaccia sandwiches from Skipton Deli eaten by the canal, a quick pint, then meeting friends for a walk around Skipton Castle Woods — nine hundred years of history right on the edge of the town centre and the perfect place to escape the heat with the kids. Then back to the campsite for a birthday eve barbecue with the whole family as the sun goes down over the Dales. The following day — the hottest of the trip — we head to Bolton Abbey. Stepping stones across the River Wharfe, chilling by the water, and a bit of history about what Henry the Eighth did to the place in the 1530s. We explain it better in the video than history books do. We do a full site tour of Catgill Farm — incredible facilities, heated shower block, well stocked shop, glamping pods, pizza kitchen and alpacas. Honest note for motorhome owners though — tight access and no grey waste disposal, so worth knowing before you book. It’s much more of a camping and glamping site than a motorhome site.
