A major fire broke out in Hürth-Kalscheuren on January 26, 2026. Two warehouses were completely engulfed in flames, and several sections of the buildings collapsed during the operation. Approximately 150 firefighters from the Hürth Fire Department, along with support units from Brühl, Wesseling, Kerpen, Frechen, Pulheim, Erftstadt, and Cologne, were on scene. The primary focus of the operation was protecting adjacent properties and containing the fire. Due to the heavy smoke, a public warning was issued. The emergency response was coordinated from the city's command center. Thanks to the wind direction, residential areas were largely unaffected by the smoke plume. The fire was brought under control in the early evening. Contaminated firefighting water is being pumped out on-site. Some smoke is still escaping from certain areas. Air quality is being monitored at 24 measuring stations throughout the city.
