It is said that a large ramie market used to be held there in the past. However, it is now a place where you can witness the final moments of a disappearing five-day market. I visited the site where about 20 merchants had gathered to set up the last market. Just as I expected, there were neither merchants nor customers. It was truly heartbreaking to see the declining rural market and the disappearing landscape of a provincial town. Amidst all this, it was also a market where I returned feeling a sense of ease in life through a conversation between an elderly merchant in his 90s and a customer of a similar age.
