By the end of the 20th century, the Philadelphia mafia is in big trouble. The rules and traditions which for almost a century held together the darkest and most sinister organization in America, have been slowly unraveling -- nowhere more so than on the streets of South Philadelphia. In the process, Omerta, the mafia's once sacrosanct code of secrecy is shattered, revealing a dysfunctional crime family, riddled with factional infighting, conspiracies and murder. Under Angelo Bruno the Philadelphia Crime Family was among the most powerful mafia families in the United States. But his murder in 1980 signaled the beginning of a violent mob war and struggle for power. Gone are the traditional ways of the mafia, to be replaced with a younger generation out to make fast money, encapsulated by the values of greed and entrepreneurship. But while this new breed of mobster was looking for ways to make a quick buck, another battle is being waged. The weapon of choice is the 'turncoat', a mafia member bought out by the FBI in exchange for information and leniency.
