The complex of temples and palaces was the epicenter of the Mayan civilization from 600 BC to 900 AD. On our trip to Guatemala, we couldn't miss visiting this wonder, a mixed World Heritage Site, due to its archaeological and natural value. However, our plan to delve into the heart of the Mayan jungle to discover the different ruins of Tikal step by step didn't go quite as expected. The great lost city is home not only to an impressive history but also to many native species of the region. The wild flora and animals found there gave us a bit of a fright as we made our way along the different trails of the archaeological complex. But the majesty of observing up close the cultural heritage of one of the most important civilizations in the Americas motivated us to complete the itinerary.
