DIY Custom Bench Seat Upholstery | 1951 Chevy Fleetline Kustom (Learning Upholstery Pt. 6)

Upholstering a classic car bench seat can be incredibly intimidating, but in Part 6 of my learning journey into DIY upholstery on the Area 51 Kustom project, I am tackling it head-on! Today, I'm diving deep into the world of automotive upholstery to completely transform the rear seat of my 1951 Chevrolet Fleetline Kustom. If you've ever wanted to learn how to pattern, sew, and install your own custom interior, and you think it may be out of your wheelhouse this step-by-step breakdown is for you. Here’s what we cover in this episode: • Deconstructing the old covers and mapping out a master pattern • Gluing and sewing the scrim (sew foam) to each material section • Laying out and stitching those classic, crisp vertical pleats • Aligning all the panels and tackling the final assembly sewing • Prepping the steel frames with fresh foam and wadding • The final pull-and-staple installation of our newly made upholstery! It’s a massive milestone for the '51 Chevy, and seeing this interior coming together makes all the hours trying to figure out this craft and behind the sewing machine completely worth it.
