Japan's Most Beautiful Canal Town Also Has a Jeans Street Nobody Expects

After Takahashi city, I headed to Kurashiki city in Okayama, the second largest one in the prefecture. This city doesn't ask for attention — and that's exactly why it surprised me. I wandered through white-walled storehouses, drifted along the canal by boat, stood in front of Monet and Gauguin in a world-class art museum, and explored ivy-covered cotton mill ruins. I even made it south to Kojima, Japan's denim heartland, and finished with sawara — Japanese Spanish mackerel from the Seto Inland Sea. Hope this gets you excited to visit — let's explore together.
