2026 Baifang Schell Book Prize Winners

NEW YORK, June 9, 2026 —  Asia Society’s Center for U.S.-China Relations hosts the awards ceremony for the Baifang Schell Book Prize, celebrating books on or from China and the Sinophone world published in 2025, with winners in nonfiction and translated literature categories. The winning authors include Barbara Demick, for her book "Daughters of the Bamboo Grove"; and Fang Fang (author) and Michael Berry (translator) for "The Running Flame: A Novel". Joining them in the panel discussions are author and broadcaster Isabel Hilton for the first panel, and literary translator Zhang Hongling (on behalf of Fang Fang) for the second panel. Alec Ash, editor of China Books Review, introduces and presents the awards. Kevin Rudd, global president and CEO of Asia Society, delivers opening remarks. (1 hr., 12 min.)
