ITG Podcast Team Member Raquel Samaoya interviews Sergei Nakariakov. Sergei Nakariakov (born May 10, 1977, in Gorky, Russia) is a world-renowned Israeli-Russian trumpet and flugelhorn virtuoso, often dubbed "The Paganini of the trumpet." Originally a piano student, he shifted his focus to the trumpet at age nine following a car accident that resulted in a spine injury, subsequently training under the guidance of his father, Mikhail Nakariakov. He emerged as a child prodigy, making his debut with an orchestra at age ten and gaining international acclaim at major festivals like the Salzburg Festival by the early 1990s. Nakariakov is particularly noted for his technical mastery and for bringing the flugelhorn to prominence as a solo instrument through his extensive repertoire of transcriptions. Now based in Paris, he has collaborated with many of the world's leading conductors and orchestras, maintaining a prolific recording career that includes numerous award-winning albums.
