Wooden Frog - Born Under a Bad Sign (Live 1969, BBC Radio 1, Symonds on Sunday, February 16)
Mason Capaldi Wood & Frog... A HISTORIC Third release from Wooden Frog... originally recorded on the 10th & broadcasted on the 16th of February, the band covers a fantastic instrumental of the Master King classic... I would like send a huge SHOUT OUT to "OLD RARE & RANDOM" for providing a copy... Gratitude... Between the November of 1968 and March of 1969, the vacuum that was left behind the abrupt departure of Master Winwood for BLIND FAITH, was attempted to be filled with WOODEN FROG... Master Winwood was gone... Master Wood and Master Capaldi were encouraged to call Master Mason back from the US by Chris Blackwell who in the meantime, had also secured the talents of Master Weaver (a.k.a Wynder K. Frog) on assorted Keyboards... The new band had a very promising start, a new direction, even accruing enough material for a new album, rehearsing just like Traffic, out in the rural Hamlet of Stoke Lacey... Under the guidance of Studio-meisters like Jimmy Miller & Andy Johns; they recorded and jammed on instrumentals, cover versions, Traffic originals as well as Master Mason solo compositions. Especially Master Wood's Flute work is exceptional on the instrumental... He also switches to Sax towards the end as well... Yet again, It is safe to say that the (almost 120 day) experiment ultimately collapsed under the ever-present Ghosts of Traffic and Master Winwood. Rest assured, I am working on a few more stories to tell about the legend of WOODEN FROG in the days & weeks to come... But there are many other interpretations... Enjoy Loud & Remember...
