What does it take for a character we know doesn't really exist to make us cry in a movie? And what's it like working on Up, Coco, or Inside Out? Today I sit down with Jordi Oñate, an animator at Pixar, to talk about all this and about Elio, the studio's new film, which premieres in Spain on July 9th and tells the story of a lonely boy who can't find his place on Earth and, by accident, is abducted and mistaken for aliens, the planet's ambassador. How many months of work go into a single scene lasting a few seconds? What kind of obsession, detail, and magic lies behind each frame? In this talk, Jordi takes us inside the studio where the craziest ideas in animated film are born. It was an honor, thank you, Jordi!
