Kate Moore – Storm Oratory (2026)* percussion solo, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, trombone, piano, 2 violins, viola, cello, double bass *Australian premiere "Storm Oratory explores the sonic and emotional impact of extreme weather systems, continuing my interest in the relationship between nature, the body and sound. This work is inspired by my love of long-distance walks through nature, where you are at the mercy of the elements. It also comments on the growing severity of storms due to climate change, engaging the broader public in these discussions through something aesthetic, attractive and accessible. I am interested in exploring these weather systems through composition, drawing parallels between storms and music as disturbances of air unfolding through time. In this sense, a large ensemble work like this can itself become a kind of storm - turbulent, powerful and immersive."
