Building Skills Through Social Action: Sandwell Academy & Envision Partnership

At Sandwell Academy in the West Midlands, students have been leading social action projects that address real issues in their school and wider community, from food poverty to access to school uniform, while developing essential skills for life beyond the classroom. Through a long-term partnership with Envision, three cohorts of students have taken part in a social action programme designed to build confidence, leadership, teamwork, and communication skills through real-world action. Headteacher James Saunders and students reflect on their experiences and the lasting impact of their projects, including initiatives such as Food for Thought and Uniform Unity, which continue to benefit the school community today. The Envision Programme empowers young people, who are often underrepresented in the world of work, to develop the essential skills and confidence proven to support their education, employment and well-being.
