KiwiRail's Northern Explorer ~ An Overview and Suggested Improvements
The Northern Explorer is a tourist train in New Zealand, running for 681 kilometres from Wellington to Auckland. I refer to it specifically as a 'tourist' train because it doesn't really cater to any other market; just one look at the timetable (and ticket prices) will tell you that it's not really a public transport service. In any case, the train is hauled by KiwiRail's DFB diesel locomotives and features the purpose-built 'AK / AKC' coaches (which have huge panoramic windows like the Glacier Express in Switzerland). This video was nearly two years in the making. It's an overview of the Northern Explorer from a railfan's perspective, along with some suggestions that could improve the train (and the general situation with passenger trains on the North Island Main Trunk). #scenicrailway #scenictrainride #newzealand #newzealandtourism #trainspotting #railway #diesellocomotive #kiwirail
