FOI DE ARREPIAR NO CLIMA EXTREMO COM VENTO CONGELANTE - EP37 TP03
TRAVELING BY CAR TO USHUAIA, ARGENTINA! We had to leave Argentina to cross the border to Chile, crossing the Strait of Magellan to reach the island of Tierra del Fuego, where the southernmost city in South America is located. We spent the night at the Laguna Azul volcano in the city of Rio Gallegos. We started our day heading to the Paso Integración Austral-Monte Aymond border crossing (Santa Cruz). It connects the Argentine town of Río Gallegos (province of Santa Cruz) with the Chilean city of Punta Arenas. Access is via highways RN3 (Argentina) and Ruta CH-255 (Chile). We went through the customs process to leave Argentina and then legally entered Chile, our third foreign country on the trip, with the Kombi Mel. To enter the country from Chile by road, certain documents are required to authorize entry, as well as to go through a border inspection by health control. Health controls at Chile's borders are being relaxed, but they are still essential to guarantee the safety of the population. The main requirement is to fill out the C19 Chile Affidavit, which can be done online before the trip or at the border, with personal and travel information, and also informing whether you are taking food of animal or plant origin. We filled out all the documents for the Chilean online affidavit, presented our passport, Kombi document, mandatory Kombi insurance called Soapex, issued by the insurance company HDI Seguros online, Brazilian driver's license (CNH), and international driving permit PID. They asked us basic questions about where we were coming from and where we were going, our contact email, and how long we were going to stay in Chile. After the authorized documentation, we took the Kombi to the phytosanitary inspection, where a health surveillance officer asked us what food we were taking in the Kombi Motorhome, since fruits cannot be taken across, and they took away the bananas that we still had. Entry into Chile was authorized. We traveled 60 km until we reached the port where we crossed by ferry through the Strait of Magellan. The traffic was heavy, with many trucks, cars and motorcycles waiting to cross. We managed to board the ferry for the crossing. We paid 31,000 Argentine pesos (exchange rate of 170.00 reais on this date). After crossing the Strait of Magellan with the Kombi Motorhome Mel, we arrived on the island of Tierra del Fuego. We drove another 60 km until we reached the first village of Cerro Sombrero Primavera de Chile, where we spent two nights parked waiting for the strong winds in the region to pass. The winds were gusting up to 90 km, which made it difficult to drive the Kombi through Patagonia with its extreme climate. In this video, we show what a remote village on the island of Tierra del Fuego is like. After the weather improved, we continued our journey towards Ushuaia! Get to know our story, we have all the videos here on the channel: After 4 years of hard work and planning, we renovated the entire Kombi Mel, built the handmade Motorhome in the Kombi Mel and finally moved into the Kombi which will be our new home on a great adventure!
