Russian Romantic Song - By the Long Road / Дорогой длинною (Red Army Choir Version)
I made this video because hideoshi_48 wants a collaboration video with me by using the song "By the Long Road" but instead of just using English translation, I'll also using the Russian lyrics to whoever are learning Russian by listening the songs. Note that the English translation may not 100% correct because I tried my best on finding the best English translation of this song. Enjoy! --- “By the Long Road” is a Russian romance written by Boris Fomin (music) and Konstantin Podrevsky (lyrics). There is also a version of the lyrics by Pavel German. The earliest recordings of this song were made by Alexander Vertinsky (1926) and Tamara Tsereteli (1929). The romance was written in 1924 and quickly gained extraordinary popularity among Russian émigrés. This was due to the warmth of its lyrics and melody, as well as, as the émigrés believed, the clearly anti-Soviet undertones of its lyrics. Beginning in the second half of the 1920s, the romance was regularly performed among Russian émigrés in Paris at Nastya Polyakova's restaurant. It's likely that Vertinsky heard it there and incorporated it into his repertoire. [x4] English translation: We rode on a troika with sleigh bells, And in the distance lights flickered... If only I could follow you now I would dispel the grief in my soul! By the long road, in the moon light, And with this song that flies into the distance, ringing out, And with this ancient, this ancient seven-string, That has so tormented me by night. Oh, it turns out our song was futile, In vain we burned night after night. If we have finished with the old, Then those nights have also left us! By the long road, in the moon light, And with this song that flies into the distance, ringing out, And with this ancient, this ancient seven-string, That has so tormented me by night. Out into our native land by new paths We have been fated to go now! We rode on a troika with sleigh bells, But long since passed by! By the long road, in the moon light, And with this song that flies into the distance, ringing out, And with this ancient, this ancient seven-string, That has so tormented me by night. --- If you want to support my channel, you can help me by donating to my PayPal.
