From Animal to Algorithm in Silico NAMs at FDA NCTR

Day 2 of the 27th NIH Tissue Chip Consortium Meeting + CIVM Qualification Framework Public Workshop Weida Tong from the FDA National Center for Toxicological Research (NCTR) presented on advances in predicting drug-induced liver injury (DILI) using new approach methodologies (NAMs) and artificial intelligence (AI) models developed at NCTR. Two novel AI models are highlighted: DeepDILI and AnimalGAN. This combination of models represents a promising avenue for enhancing DILI prediction, potentially reducing reliance on animal testing and improving regulatory decision-making. The work also highlights ongoing collaborations and the importance of integrating multiple NAMs to close existing gaps in drug safety assessment.
