İlklerin şehri Uşak | Tarihi ve kültürü | Geleneksel yemekleri

Known as the "City of Firsts," Uşak attracts local and international tourists with its cuisine, history, and culture. One of the cities where Anatolia's modernization journey began, Uşak, a gateway between the Aegean and Central Anatolia regions, has held a significant place throughout history thanks to its geographical location. The city, renowned for its natural beauty and historical fabric, has hosted numerous civilizations throughout history, most notably the Phrygians and Lydians. Another factor that enhances the city's historical and geographical importance is its location at a key point on the Royal Road, which connected the Aegean and Mesopotamia through trade and culture. The ancient city of Blaundos is located on a hill northeast of the village of Sülümenli. Located in the Lydian region, close to the Phrygian border, the city was founded by Macedonians after Alexander the Great's campaign into Anatolia during the Hellenistic period, 40 kilometers from Uşak. The ancient city, home to structures such as a theater, temples, aqueducts, and various rock tombs, has been excavated by the Uşak Museum and the Uşak University Archaeology Department since 2018. The Ulubey Canyons, located 33 kilometers from Uşak city center, are known as the world's second largest canyon. A glass terrace above the canyon offers visitors a unique view. Ancient water channels, rock tombs, and caves dot the canyon, and it has recently become a popular spot for nature and wedding photographers. The Clandras Aqueduct, located over the Banaz River in the canyon, is estimated to have been built approximately 2,500 years ago during the Phrygian period. The Taşyaran Valley, shaped by water, wind, and tectonic movements, is located on the Uşak-İzmir highway, approximately 45 kilometers from the city center. The valley's unique vegetation and geological formations attract local and international tourists from across Turkey and around the world. Traditional regional dishes include tarhana soup, egg leakage, liver bulgur, döner, katmer, Arap aşı, keşkek, alaca tene, foam halva, cendere dessert, demir dessert, höşmerim, and tahini halva. The "Yaren Night," unique to Uşak, features folk songs, local melodies, and folk dances, with participants wearing the traditional "Yaren" (Yaren Night) and singing along. Historic Uşak carpets, produced in Uşak and its surrounding region since the 15th century, known as the center of Ottoman carpet weaving, are now exhibited in numerous museums in Türkiye and around the world. The carpets' most distinctive feature is their motifs. The Uşak Archaeology Museum, which operated in the same building for approximately 48 years, moved to its new location in 2018. The three-story museum features archaeological artifacts found within Uşak, special sections dedicated to money and its history, the Lydian Period, and the Treasures of Croesus. The Winged Seahorse Brooch, one of the valuable pieces from the Treasures of Croesus, is on display. Known as the "City of Firsts," Uşak became the first city in Türkiye to use electricity in 1909. In the city, where the first industrial enterprises were established, the first sugar factory was established in 1926, thanks to the initiative of Nuri (Şeker) Bey. The factory was also the first multi-partner company. City currently has 32 active javelin clubs, and the equestrian javelin competition, a traditional sport requiring horsemanship, agility, and intelligence, was first held in Uşak. The Afyon-İzmir (Basmane) railway line, which passes through Uşak, has been in operation since 1898. Türkiye's first children's library opened on September 10, 1953, in Eşme, a district of Uşak famous for its rugs. Türkiye's first Şayak Factory was established in Uşak on February 21, 1926. Furthermore, nature tourism and outdoor experiences in Uşak, camping and stargazing photo shoots at the ancient city of Blaundos, and off-road and motocross activities in Ulubey Canyon also attract the attention of local and international visitors.
