Indigenous Knowledge Seminar

The Research Office on the UFS Qwaqwa Campus, in partnership with the Office for International Affairs, has the pleasure of inviting you to the Qwaqwa Campus Biennial Indigenous Knowledge Systems Seminar. The theme for this year’s seminar is ‘Navigating Decoloniality and Indigenous Knowledge for Sustainable Development in Africa.’ The intellectual and planning spaces are abuzz with concepts such as ‘Sustainable Development Goals’, ‘decoloniality’ and ‘engaged scholarship’. But what does all this mean in practice for society in general or nation-states – economically and socially? This seminar takes stock of IKS and invites participants to discuss: To what extent is IKS influencing social policy, as well as generating development formats and patents that make nations competitive. What are the practical implications of these concepts in relation to the advancement of society in Africa? Two eminent scholars will present their keynote addresses: • Professor Josephine Ahikire: College of Humanities and Social Sciences Makerere University, Uganda • Dr Lwazi Lushaba: Department of Political Studies, University of Cape Town, South Africa
