Twitter @juangangel The Río Claro Canyon Nature Reserve "El Refugio" is located on the southeastern slope of the central mountain range in the department of Antioquia, Colombia, bordering the municipalities of Puerto Triunfo, San Luis, and Sonson. 40 kilometers from the source of the river, in the Alto del Tigre and Alto de la Osa (Sonson), and 57 kilometers from the mouth of the Magdalena River. This nature reserve is a private initiative, initiated in 1970, which, with environmental awareness, supports the protection of tropical rainforests in the Río Claro Canyon, while developing ecotourism with educational and recreational programs within the protected area. This refuge of tropical vegetation, characterized by humid forests growing on limestone rocks in the marble deposits of the Río Claro del Norte region, is one of the most important and beautiful reserves in the center of the country. It is a place that boasts great biodiversity in its flora and fauna, and an indescribable beauty reflected in the transparency of the river, which for millions of years made its way through the high stone hills, forming the most splendid Marble Canyon in Colombia.
