Gel Plate Printing Stencils - Tips That Actually Work

In today’s video, I’m sharing gel plate printing stencil tips that actually work, based on real studio play and plenty of experimentation. If you’ve ever struggled with muddy layers, over-busy prints, or stencils that just don’t behave, this session will help you build stronger, more successful results. I’m working on the gel plate with a heap of stencils, using acrylic paint alongside my favourite Liquitex spray paint. I’ve also joined the PM Artist Studio Colour Combo Challenge, so I’m putting the three designated colours through their paces while layering stencils in different ways. You’ll see how I start with simple single-layer prints and gradually build up to two, three, and even six stencil layers, showing what works, what to avoid, and how each layer adds depth, movement, and clarity to the print. This is a playful, energetic session — a true creative frenzy — but it’s also packed with practical advice you can take straight into your own studio.
