Major flooding in Lakeview neighborhood in New Orleans
Heavy rain that fell at a rate of 6 to 8 inches per hour overwhelmed the pumping capabilities in parts of Orleans and Jefferson parishes Saturday, while pump station problems exacerbated an already tough situation, according to New Orleans Mayor Helena Moreno. Roads in some neighborhoods, particularly Lakeview, City Park and Mid-City and Hollygrove were impassable and viewers reported water entering some cars. Other viewers reported being stranded and people scrambling to get their cars out of harm's way.
