Casa Areca, designed by CO-LAB in Tulum, Mexico, is a serene retreat nestled among tropical vegetation. Its design focuses on maintaining a cool and fresh interior atmosphere year-round. The property features a rustic stone wall crafted from materials excavated during construction, preserving the surrounding vegetation, including areca palm plants. The house boasts a bright, airy interior with large openings that blur the boundaries between inside and outside, enhancing the tropical ambiance. Exterior walls are finished with white polished cement, while the textured facade is created using a formwork of wooden sticks, casting intriguing shadows. Inside, light-toned finishes like cream walls and polished concrete floors contribute to the tranquil atmosphere. The residence is divided into public and private areas, with the ground floor offering open lounging, dining, and cooking spaces that seamlessly connect to the garden and swimming pool. Upstairs, four bedrooms with individual bathrooms are arranged, while a furnished terrace on the roof provides a relaxing spot with a wooden pergola for weather protection. CO-LAB incorporates earthy materials like parrot and jute to blend the house with its natural surroundings, while wooden elements feature a light finish to complement the home's muted tones, creating a warm and serene ambiance overall.
