Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, is a prime example of a multi-centered city. It features numerous public housing sites within the city alone, including Ilsan, a first-generation new town. Most of these areas are bedroom communities that compete in terms of proximity to Seoul. This is also a contributing factor to the weakening competitiveness of Ilsan as it undergoes a process of urbanization. Just looking at the housing sites along Jungang-ro, there are Haengsin and Hyangdong, and Changneung New Town is currently under development. Daegok is also scheduled to be added to this area in the near future. Conversely, this means that all of these regions are relatively close to Seoul.
