As part of the test of the Yakut knife from the STEEL TUSK workshop, we decided not only to work with the knife, we decided to understand in practice what is more effective and versatile - YAKUT or SCANDINAVIAN?! The idea is not to compare these two knives specifically - a small Yakut knife and a bushcraft knife from the Swedish concern CASSTROM. We tried to understand the concept and features of working with two knives with fundamentally different approaches and geometries, but with a very similar ideology. Both knives are northern! Both knives are designed to become assistants to a person in conditions of being in the wild, often at subzero and extremely low temperatures. Both the Yakut knife and the Scandinavian knife have a rich history. These knives have armies of fans and admirers, but a survey in the FORESTER channel group in contact showed that 75% of enthusiastic people in the group place their bets on the Scandinavian knife with Scandinavian descents to "zero". We did a lot of work, planed, batoned, chopped, of course cut, picked, drilled, cut out dishes, and of course worked on products - peeled vegetables, cut fruits, meat, even tried to cook stroganina from frozen meat. Both knives are reduced to "zero", but the differences are noticeable. In one case, the knife has a forged fuller on the straight side and a convex lens on the other, which gives the knife advantages in some types of work, and also adds functionality, but also reduces the convenience of performing other work. In another case - the descents are made symmetrically, those who are not aloof from the knife theme, know such descents as SCANDI, or classic Scandinavian descents to "zero". Such a knife is more predictable, familiar, requires less skill to master, in some places it is more convenient to work. but the functionality of the knife is lower, which, in fact, we have proven today empirically!
