RULES FOR DETERMINING RELATIVE JURISDICTION To properly study the rules of relative jurisdiction, a distinction must be made between contentious civil cases, non-contentious cases, and criminal cases. Furthermore, these rules must be complemented by those relating to the distribution of cases and the jurisdiction of the court, applicable in cases where there is more than one judge in a given jurisdiction to hear the case.
