Gen. Peter Gatdet Yakä responds to the Nuer Prophet Gatdɛ̈ɛ̈ŋ Di̱t & Machot Deng in revealing ways.
Episode 3: Part 4. Listen to Gen. Peter Gatdet Yaka's vision and understanding of a key turning point in Sudan's Second Civil War--the point at which he shifted his loyalties from the SPLA to the Khartoum Government in December 2002. In this recording made in March 2003, GoS-allied Gen. Gatdet claims to be fighting independently for the Khartoum Government in March 2003, and not to be fighting under the command of his military superior, Maj. General Paulino Matiep Nhial. He further explains in his astoundingly revealing recording that all of his current military supplies and rank-and-file soldiers were provided to him by the Sudan Armed Forces. It is important to remember that when Cmd. Gatdet defected to the Khartoum Government's side, he did so as an individual, flying directly from Nairobi to Khartoum, without taking with him the weaponry or soldiers who fought with him when he was allied with the SPLA. He further reveals his overarching concern about who will control Unity State's oil fields when the war someday ends. He expresses anger towards the re-unified leadership of the Sudan's People's Liberation Movement/Army, following its rejoining by Cmd. Riek Machar in January 2002. However, Peter Gatdet deepest resentments target the SPLA's Commander-in-Chief, John Garang de Mabior. While Gatdet reacts angrily to Mayom County Commissioner Martin Machot's message, he expresses tremendous respect for the Prophet Mut Turoah Nyawiee and pledges that the Prophet's home will never be attacked by "the Jalaba" or by his GoS-allied forces. Following a brief introduction by "Nyarial" in English, this video's audio portion of Gatdet's voice and message is recorded in Thok Naath. (Dr. Hutchinson's recorded this recording during strong winds. For this reason, it contains some sections muffled by the wind's sound. But you can still hear what Gen. Peter Gatdet says!)
