In the Garden Lyrics: I come to the garden alone, While the dew is still on the roses And the voice I hear, falling on my ear The Son of God discloses And He walks with me, and He talks with me And He tells me I am His own And the joy we share as we tarry there None other has ever known He speaks, and the sound of His voice Is so sweet the birds hush their singing And the melody that He gave to me Within my heart is ringing And He walks with me, and He talks with me And He tells me I am His own And the joy we share as we tarry there None other has ever known I'd stay in the garden with Him Tho' the night around me be falling But He bids me go; thro' the voice of woe His voice to me is calling And He walks with me, and He talks with me And He tells me I am His own And the joy we share as we tarry there None other has ever known Experience a soulful and intimate Appalachian Folk Duet rendition of the 1912 classic, "In the Garden." This version strips away the grand piano and organ, replacing them with traditional acoustic strings and close mountain harmonies to capture the quiet, early-morning peace described in the lyrics. 📜 The History: A Vision of Peace "In the Garden" was written in 1912 by C. Austin Miles, a former pharmacist turned prolific hymn writer. Miles later shared that the song was written in a dark room in the basement of a Philadelphia music publishing house, but the inspiration was anything but dark. Miles had been reading the 20th chapter of the Gospel of John, specifically the story of Mary Magdalene at the tomb. He described falling into a "deep daydream" where he felt as though he were a witness to that first Easter morning in the garden. He said the words and the melody came to him in a rush of inspiration, and he wrote them down as quickly as his pen could move. Since its publication, "In the Garden" has become one of the most recorded hymns in history, famously performed by everyone from Elvis Presley to Alan Jackson. In the Appalachian tradition, it is a staple of "homecomings" and family gatherings, representing the deeply personal relationship between the pilgrim and the divine. 🎧 Credits Lyrics: C.
