Podcast Basics: The Gear You Actually Need

You do not need a closet full of expensive gear to sound like a real podcaster, but a few key pieces will change everything. I'm kicking off a brand new summer series on podcasting basics, and I'm starting right where every podcaster should, with the hardware. I walk you through the equipment I personally use and recommend to my clients, from the USB microphones I trust to the boom arm, pop filter, and noise-canceling headphones that make recording so much easier. I also get into the extras you can grow into over time, like acoustic panels for taming echo, lighting for video, and a simple webcam upgrade that beats whatever came built into your laptop. The beauty of this approach is that you can begin with just a microphone and headphones and build from there as your budget allows. Your gear should never be the thing standing between you and starting your show.
