However, of the approximately 70,000 cancer deaths in 2010, only about 6,500 (9% of cancer deaths) received medical services at specialized palliative care institutions. However, hospice care not only provides pain management but also helps patients complete their final journey with dignity and meaning. ▶ Passage of the "Well-Dying Act," What's Next? The so-called "Well-Dying Act," which aims to ensure patients with no hope of recovery can die with dignity, passed the National Assembly earlier this year.
