How I Got A Non-Fiction Book Deal: Agents, Proposals and Queries

I'm hot off submission of my first book's manuscript and whilst I await my edits, I'm sharing my book publishing journey. In this video I cover how I found my literary agent, how I crafted my query, how I wrote my proposal, how the process of submitting to a publisher works, when the best time is to go out to publishers, and how long the process took! My book is non-fiction, and I've taken the traditional publishing route, with Little, Brown publishing it in April 2020. In future videos, I'll cover book deals, rights, writing process, research, narrative structures, how I funded my writing, writing retreats, and all sorts! If you have anything specific you want me to cover, please post your questions in the comments, and I'll try my best to answer in future Q&A videos! //Timestamps// 00:39 How I found my agent 02:57 Ideation and crafting my query 04:56 First agent meeting 06:29 Fiction v non-fiction 07:10 Writing the non-fiction proposal 12:42 Timings and publishing 'seasons' 14:13 Going out to publishers 16:41 Advice for aspiring authors //Find me elsewhere online// Pre-order 'SMOKE & MIRRORS: How Hype Obscures the Future and How to See Past It': https://amzn.to/2HNJFLr Goodreads:   / gemma-milne   Twitter:   / gemmamilne   Instagram:   / gemmamilnewriter   Newsletter Sign-Up: https://brainreel.substack.com/ Website: https://www.gemmamilne.co.uk/ Medium:   / gkmilne1   LinkedIn:   / gkmilne1
