Wake Me When It's Over is a 1960 DeLuxe Color comedy film directed by Mervyn LeRoy and starring Ernie Kovacs and Dick Shawn in CinemaScope. The screenplay concerns a World War II veteran who gets called back into service by mistake and is sent to a dreary Pacific island. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Howard Singer. Plot: After the Korean War, Gus Brubaker is mistakenly called back into military service because of a government paperwork error. He is assigned to a neglected U.S. Air Force radar station on a remote island near Japan, where morale is low and the base has been forgotten. Together with the unconventional Captain Charlie Stark, Gus transforms the abandoned military outpost into a luxurious resort hotel using surplus equipment. Their unusual project brings life back to the island, but it also attracts unwanted attention from military officials, leading to investigations, courtroom chaos, and plenty of hilarious situations before the truth finally comes to light.
