How to Create Mean-Centered Variables in jamovi

In this video I demonstrate how to mean center variables in jamovi. Specifically, I demonstrate two different ways to mean center. The first way is a two step process: 1) Find the mean of the variable, 2) Use the mean to create the mean-centered variable. The second way is more elegant. It takes advantage of the VMEAN function within jamovi, which allows you to bypass having to first find the mean of the variable (jamovi does it for you). Thus, I recommend using the second approach. I also demonstrated how to ensure that you have correctly created mean-centered variables. For mean-centered variables, the mean should be zero and the standard deviation should match the standard deviation of the original variable. Mean centering variables can be useful in regression analyses, and it is a concept/technique that becomes more important in more complex analyses (e.g., multi-level modeling).
