Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari stated that the strike targeted Hezbollah's "central headquarters" in Beirut's southern suburbs and the party's Secretary-General, Hassan Nasrallah. Israel's Channel 12 reported that the operation targeting Nasrallah had been planned for some time, culminating in what it termed "golden intelligence," leading to the attack on the headquarters. The British magazine The Economist, in its July 3, 2024, report outlined a possible scenario for a war between Israel and Hezbollah, aiming to weaken the party and push it northward. The report described intense attacks using suicide drones, a permanent power outage, and a barrage of rockets from Hezbollah, which possesses more than 120,000 rockets and missiles, many capable of accurately reaching targets in Tel Aviv.
