David Liebman - Seeing The Light

FROM DAVID LIEBMAN: This clip consists of excerpts from a university talk entitled "Seeing The Light." The main point concerns how a momentous life-changing event, an epiphany of the non-religious sort, can be transformed into a living reality. In my case it was seeing the great jazz artist John Coltrane live in performance when I was fifteen years old that in retrospect years later set the course of my life's work. Dramatic events such as illness, family issues, natural disasters, etc., happen every day to people....situations that to one degree or another are outside of an individual's direct control and may result in potentially life changing consequences. What I am describing is one's realization that an epiphany occurred, possibly perceived contemporaneously or as in my case years later. The crucial question is were the ramifications of that event manifested in a meaningful way, through what I call the "work." This means obtaining the necessary knowledge and resources towards realizing the implications of the epiphany.
