Drone Photogrammetry: Survey‑Grade 3D Model of the Summerfest Pavilion in Deep River, Ontario Canada

The new timber‑frame Summerfest Pavilion in Deep River is coming along really well. The timber frame was installed by Matt Forrest of Forrest Timber Frames out of Burnstown, Ontario — fast, precise, and top‑quality craftsmanship that really shows in the structure. Forrest Timber Frames not only installed the pavilion, but also sawed all the logs and cut every piece of joinery that makes up the frame. Right now, volunteers are hard at work staining the ceiling and getting everything ready for the installation of the steel roof. The amount of community effort going into this project is incredible. The pavilion is being built and fully funded by Summerfest through donations and festival revenue. Once complete, it will eliminate the yearly cost of renting a big‑top tent for Canada Day and other town events. This new space will be a huge benefit to the community — shade for parents and grandparents watching soccer, a comfortable viewing spot for seniors at the long‑term care centre, and a flexible area for performances, gatherings, and future events. It replaces the large tent that used to hold all the picnic tables, giving Deep River a permanent, welcoming structure instead. The process to create the survey‑grade 3D model in this video starts with flying a precise drone photogrammetry mission over the construction site. Hundreds of overlapping images are captured from multiple angles, then stitched together using specialized software to generate an accurate, high‑resolution 3D reconstruction. This allows us to document progress, measure details, and showcase the build in a way traditional methods simply can’t. The dedication from volunteers, the Summerfest Committee, and the craftsmanship from Forrest Timber Frames has made this pavilion a project the whole town can be proud of.
