It turns out this was a common practice recently taking place in the imported car industry. The police have launched an investigation following a complaint filed by the car owner. Reporter Song Geun-seop reports. [Report] Last March, Mr. A purchased an expensive limited-edition imported car. He paid the car price of approximately 130 million won without taking out a loan or using installment payments. However, he later discovered that a mortgage had been placed on his vehicle. The amount of the debt was a mere 10,000 won. The name of the mortgagee was that of an individual he had never met. [Mr. A / Voice altered: "I have never heard of him, never met him, never spoken to him on the phone, and I didn't even know who this person named ○○ was."] After making inquiries, it was discovered that the mortgagee was none other than the branch manager of the sales company where Mr. A purchased the vehicle. Recently, the imported car industry has been requiring some customers to sign pledges to prevent new cars from being smuggled overseas immediately after purchase. The pledges consist of promising not to resell the vehicle for a certain period and agreeing to the establishment of a mortgage lien for this purpose. However, Mr. A claims that he was not informed that the mortgage lien would be established in his personal name rather than the company's name, and that he never personally drafted documents such as a power of attorney for the lien establishment; he asserts that he had already become a debtor without his knowledge. Ultimately, Mr. A filed a police complaint against the branch manager, the vehicle registration agency, and the local government official who established the mortgage lien, accusing them of forgery and use of private documents. [Mr. A / Voice altered: "If the branch manager resigns, or if he resigns due to a grudge against the company, and the mortgage lien is not released, I won't be able to sell this car later..."] Regarding this, the branch manager refused to comment separately, while the local government official explained that they established the mortgage lien after verifying the documents submitted through the online system.
