Cliona Hagan - Down At The Twist And Shout - Live at the Salardu Country Rock Festival, Spain, 2018 28-year-old Cliona Hagan won the newcomer of the year gong at the 2016 RTE Irish Country Music Awards. She first shot to fame when she reached the final of The All Ireland Talent Show on RTE TV in 2009 after being mentored by Eurovision Song Contest winner Dana. Cliona is a classically trained singer and music teacher, but she insists that country is her first love. The young Tyrone woman says: "Whether it was American or Irish country, I loved it, with my favourites being the Dixie Chicks and Garth Brooks… and of course the great Irish country singers like Daniel O'Donnell, Philomena Begley and Susan McCann. "Down at the Twist and Shout" is a song written and recorded by American country music artist Mary Chapin Carpenter. It was released in June 1991 as the third single from the album Shooting Straight in the Dark. The song reached number 2 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart on September 14, 1991. The Cajun-themed song features backing from members of BeauSoleil, who are also name-dropped in the lyrics. Carpenter (and BeauSoleil) performed the song pregame at Super Bowl XXXI. In 1992, "Down at the Twist and Shout" won Carpenter a Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance, Female.
