Frerk Petersen is a veteran of the German fishing scene. He is known not only for trolling on the Baltic Sea, but also for all-round fishing. He loves fishing for coarse fish. That's why Elmar met him on the Elbe-Lübeck Canal and elicited many tips from him on feeder fishing. Frerk unpacks his 13-foot feeder rod at a turning basin in the canal and explains his feeder fishing approach. In this video, the coarse fish specialist explains his fishing for coarse fish on the canal. First, he gives tips for mixing the feeder bait correctly. When fishing with a feeder, he pays attention to the bait's optimal consistency. It shouldn't be too wet, but also not too dry. He uses a monofilament fishing line with a diameter of 0.22 millimeters on his feeder rod for coarse fish. Why not use braided line for feeder fishing? When fishing with a feeder at close range, in this case 40 to 45 meters, he uses the line's stretch as a buffer. The wire feeder is attached to a snap hook in a loop rig. This feeder rig with a feeder is a classic. When casting the feeder rig, the feeder flies ahead in the loop and is not stuck to the knot. Frerk fishes finely for coarse fish. He shortens his leader for feeder fishing to around 50 centimeters. Later, he selects a leader around 70 centimeters long. He loops 0.12 to 0.16 millimeter thick leaders with size 16 to 12 hooks onto the feeder rig. He uses maggots as bait for bream. Later, he fishes with worms, which he also cuts up. He adds the live bait to his feeder bait. Once everything is ready for fishing with the feeder rod, he looks for a bearing marker on the far bank. After the first cast, he clips the line into the line clip. With each cast, he brings bait to his fishing spot with the wire feeder. He holds the feeder rod, with a casting weight well over 100 grams, almost vertically during the cast and lowers it as soon as the line reaches the line clip. This way, he always fishes the same spot with the feeder rig. The sensitive tip of his feeder rod signals a bite by twitching, wobbling, or bending. While fishing with the feeder, Frerk catches fish for later fishing for pike and zander when he sets out again. Unfortunately, the really big bream aren't biting, but Frerk catches a few nice fish in the canal with the feeder rig.
