Nation Update: Barbados first in Caribbean to use Savi Scout Breast Surgery Technology
Two Barbadian breast cancer patients in their 60s have become the first in the Caribbean to undergo surgery using the Savi Scout device at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH). The procedure, performed on Friday, was led by consultant general and breast surgeon Dr Dale Springer, alongside surgical oncologist Vincent Reid from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The women, aged 61 and 65, are now recovering at home. The technology is expected to improve cancer detection, including cases where no lump is present, and streamline operating theatre procedures.
