S1GP 2016 - ROUND 3: GP of ITALY, Busca - 26mn Magazine - Supermoto

// S1GP // FIM Supermoto World Championship // 2016 // Busca (Italy) 12 June 2016 – In sunny warm conditions and in front of a big crowd the leader of the S1GP World Championship Thomas Chareyre won his third consecutive Grand Prix this season after some epic fights with his opponents, while Diego Monticelli took his first win of the season in the S2 European Championship. S1GP Race 1 When the lights dropped for the first race it was Degasoline TM rider Marc-Reiner Schmidt who grabbed the holeshot in the first corner at Busca, followed by KTM MTR rider Pavel Kejmar, TM Factory rider Thomas Chareyre and Husqvarna rider Lukas Höllbacher. Thomas Chareyre managed to pass Pavel Kejmar in the second lap of the race leaving him in second position. The battle for the lead than started as the four riders where only a few meters from each other, trying to overtake on every piece of asphalt and every corner. In lap 4 Thomas Chareyre made an small mistake in the entry of the off-road section and crashed, leaving the door open for Pavel Kejmar and Lukas Höllbacher to pass the Frenchman. In fourth position he restarted the race and had the fight himself back to the leaders of the race. In front of the race Marc-Reiner Schmidt and Pavel Kejmar were having an epic battle, passing each other on each straight line of the track and every corner. Time after time Marc-Reiner Schmidt managed to fight himself back passed Pavel Kejmar. In lap 12 the Czech KTM rider made a move in a very tight corner and took over first place from Marc-Reiner Schmidt. In the meantime Thomas Chareyre closed the gap to Lukas Höllbacher and was able to pass him with four laps to go. Lukas Höllbacher couldn’t keep up the pace of the reigning World Champion and had to settle for fourth place. Further back in the field Suzuki Grau rider David Gimenez rode his own race in fifth position, while Belgium KTM MTR rider Lionel Deridder was re-gaining from his bad start passing local riders Vladimiro Leone and Gabriele Gianola to finish in sixth. Meanwhile the battle for the lead was far from over as Thomas Charyere closed in on Marc-Reiner Schmidt and Pavel Kejmar. With two laps to go Marc-Reiner Schmidt overtook Pavel Kejmar at the back of the track, but the Czech rider wasn’t giving up and countered again. Marc-Reiner Schmidt closed the door in the last corner and crossed the finish line in first, only a few meters in front of Pavel Kejmar, Thomas Chareyre and Lukas Höllbacher. S1GP Race 2 After a short break the weather conditions in Busca started to be very warm and humid which made it even harder for the riders on the technical race track. As the riders were still talking about the battle in the first race, the big crowd next to the track was hoping for the same in the second race. At the start it was TM Factory Racing rider Thomas Chareyre who was the fastest in the first corner followed by Pavel Kejmar, Marc-Reiner Schmidt and Lukas Höllbacher. This time the World Champion decided not to make any mistakes and already soon in the race he managed to create a gap of a few seconds between him and the others. Pavel Kejmar was the only rider who could follow Thomas Chareyre in the beginning but he had settle for second before Marc-Reiner Schmidt, the winner of the first race. As in Race 1, Austrian Husqvarna rider Lukas Höllbacher was in fourth place followed on 5 seconds by Suzuki Grau rider David Gimenez. Behind David Gimenez, TM rider Vladimiro Leone and KTM MTR rider Lionel Deridder where having a battle for sixth position, a battle which was won by Lionel Deridder on the finish line. In front of the race it was Thomas Chareyre who won the second race followed on almost six seconds by Pavel Kejmar, Marc-Reiner Schmidt, Lukas Höllbacher and David Gimenez. With this win in the second race and the third place in race one Thomas Chareyre won his third consecutive race of the 2016 season. Marc-Reiner Schmidt took second place in the Grand Prix and Pavel Kejmar completed the podium in third place.
