Submariner to Senator: Tom Weiler’s Mission for Minnesota 📱

​Thomas G. Weiler is a retired Commander (CDR) in the United States Navy who served for 20 years in the Submariner Force. Born in Corpus Christi, Texas, and raised in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, he attended Eden Prairie High School before graduating with honors from the University of Notre Dame in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He was commissioned as an Ensign in January 2001 after participating in the Navy ROTC program. ​Naval Career ​During his two-decade naval career, CDR (ret) Weiler served on several submarines, including: ​USS CHICAGO (SSN 721): Junior Officer ​USS CHARLOTTE (SSN 766) & USS COLUMBIA (SSN 771): Navigator and Operations Officer ​USS MICHIGAN (GOLD) (SSGN 727): Executive Officer ​Stationed primarily in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and Bangor, Washington, he completed multiple global deployments vital to national security. His final sea tour was as the Carrier Strike Group 10 Submarine Operations and Training Officer from 2019 to 2021, where he completed a 206-day continuous deployment to the Middle East onboard the USS EISENHOWER (CVN 69). ​Additionally, he held diverse assignments at the Pentagon and abroad, including: ​Commander Submarine Pacific (CSP) Watch Officer ​Global War On Terrorism Individual Augmentation to US EUCOM in Stuttgart, Germany ​Flag Aide to Commander US Pacific Fleet (CPF) ​Legislative Defense Fellow in the U.S. House of Representatives ​Strategic Communicator for the Director, Undersea Warfare Division (OPNAV N97) ​Executive Assistant for the Chief of Legislative Affairs ​Military Assistant for the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Homeland Defense & Global Security ​Aide to the Joint Task Force Commander during Operation TOMODACHI following the 2011 Great Japanese Earthquake ​Post-Service Career & Education ​Following a diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease, which resulted in the premature conclusion of his naval career, Mr. Weiler returned to Minnesota and ran for U.S. Congress in 2022, where he won the Republican nomination for Minnesota's 3rd Congressional District. Since the election, he has worked for Ventus Solutions, supporting projects at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and the Office of Naval Research (ONR). ​He holds the following advanced degrees: ​Master of Public Administration: Harvard University ​Master of Engineering Management: Old Dominion University ​Master of Science in National Resource Strategy: Eisenhower School at National Defense University ​Personal Life ​Tom and his wife, Cynthia, have two children, Clare and Thomas.
