Discover Anna Boghiguian's Powerful New Exhibition at Turner Contemporary: The Sunken Boat: A Glimpse Into Past Histories *Now showing at Margate's Turner Contemporary: *Sat 14 Jun–Sun 26 Oct 2025 Official Exhibition Film Taking inspiration from the gallery’s coastal setting, Boghiguian explores the deep, intertwined histories of maritime trade, migration, ecological collapse, and geopolitical tension. Known for her immersive, large-scale installations combining painting, collage, paper-mâché, sculpture and sound, Boghiguian’s work invites visitors to reflect on how the sea has shaped – and continues to shape – our shared global past and future. 🎨 In The Sunken Boat, expect to see work including: ✔ Vivid, cut-out figures on Khadi paper using encaustic painting techniques ✔ A sunken ship, marine life, and submerged communications cables ✔ Commentary on colonialism, climate change, and undersea politics ✔ A pop-up book–style installation experience rooted in storytelling and history Who is Anna Boghiguian? Boghiguian’s past works include The Square, the Line and the Ruler (2019), a life-size chess set critiquing power structures, and The Salt Traders (2015), an environmental piece highlighting the links between salt trade, colonialism, and climate change. Anna Boghiguian is an artist whose work has been exhibited internationally, including the Istanbul Biennial (2009), Sharjah Biennial (2011), and dOCUMENTA(13) (2012). She received the Golden Lion at the 2015 Venice Biennale and is known for her installations that explore the intersections of history, politics, and the environment. Born in Cairo to an Armenian family, Boghiguian studied political science and economics at the American University in Cairo before moving to Canada in the 1970s to study art and music. In 2024, she was awarded the prestigious Wolfgang Hahn Prize in Germany. _______________________________________________ The Sunken Boat is presented in collaboration with ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum and curated by Sarah Martin, with production by Katherine Lloyd and Joe Drakeford.
