The Grid (narrated tutorial and art history of the artist's grid)
In this video, we take a look at the artist's grid. This simple tool has been used for thousands of years to help the artist maintain proportion and perspective. We will look into its use in art history by viewing the work of Leon Battista Alberti, Albrecht Dürer, Giovanni Battista Salvi da Sassoferrato, Jacques-Louis David, Edgar Degas, and Vincent Van Gogh. In the second part of this video, I'll show you how to set up a simple grid and build a Dürer frame (or Alberti's vail) to use in your own work. Thanks so much for watching!
