The cutting should be 2–4 inches long, with 2–3 mature leaves and a stem diameter of 0.16–0.24 inches. You can pinch off the lower leaves to help the roots grow, but leave the top leaves intact to absorb moisture. 3. Prepare the cutting Dip the cut end of the cutting in rooting hormone powder to increase the chances of new root growth. You can buy rooting hormone powder at many garden centers. 4. Plant the cutting Make holes in moist, pasteurized potting soil and insert the cutting, being careful not to rub off the hormone if you used a powder. Place the cutting in a bright location with good humidity, but out of direct sunlight. 5.
