Holland scores: Following in the footsteps of newcomers Hreidarsson and Di Canio, who had scored their first Premiership goals for the Addicks in the previous two games, Charlton's new skipper Holland opened his account with a brace of goals. It was Holland's third goal at St Andrews but the first time he had tasted victory in five visits. It brought his total to 66 league and cup goals, of which 32 had been netted at away venues. Memorable performance: In what was described by Sky summariser Trevor Francis as the best game he had seen so far in the season, Charlton turned in a memorable, and brave, performance to record their third successive away win in top-flight football for the first time since October 1954; having already put the same run together in seasons 1947/48 and 1948/49. The all-time best of four consecutive away wins in top flight football was created in Charlton's first season in the old First Division (1936/37) between December and February - and that run also included a 2-1 victory at St Andrews. In terms of Premiership football, 18 points after 11 matches represented seventh-placed Charlton's best start ever, beating the 15 points in season 2000/01. It was the best start in top flight football for the Addicks since the 1955/56 season when they picked up the equivalent of 19 points from their opening 11 matches. The all-time record was set in 1953/54, when Charlton won seven of their opening 11 matches (equivalent to 21 points) and then went on to record nine wins in their opening 13 matches. Man of the Match: Someone among a team of Charlton heroes had to be named Sky's Man of the Match and that honour fell to Kiely, who produced a truly breathtaking performance; two of his saves, from Dugarry and Forssell, being described by Francis as "world class". Injured: Hreidarsson had five stitches inserted in a cut to his right eye during the interval following a clash of heads with Clemence, whose head wound required three stitches.
