Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3 HD (Xbox 360) - 3. Dragon Universe - Teen Gohan Playthrough

Having languished in my library for many, many, years, here is Dragon Ball Z Budokai HD, a "collection" of the first and third Budoaki games (don't ask why Budokai 2 or Infinite World were not included) running in fabulous 1280x720 and cleaned up for modern digital displays, atleast for 2012 anyway. Although, saying that, Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3 is deservedly still held in high regard. Not only does it flow beautifully with combos, interrupts, and specials that all feel satisfying to land, but also for its very accessibility, and ease of difficulty, with controls that even a novice of fighting games could pick-up on. The addition of quick dodges, teleport counters and backdashes all added to the fast and addictive gameplay unique to Budokai 3 as well. Compared to my, brief, Budokai 1 playthrough, the expansive Dragon Universe mode stretches for hours and hours, with plenty of reason to replay campaigns (mainly Goku's) for the sake of unlocking further extras. It is worth it however when unlocking Broly, Cooler, and finally Omega Shenron on a fourth playthrough. While the production isn't quite as ambitious as the first Budokai, I like the connecting bits between chapters between different characters in the campaigns, and the ability to just freely fly around the Dragon Ball world. They are simple things but executed with the level of class that only Dimps were capable of back in 2004. Like the first Budokai HD, the most disappointing thing is ultimately the new music which, understandably, had to be done for the sake of avoiding litigation on Bamco's part, but some of Budokai 3's music is simply iconic (especially Kageyama's opening). If you have never played Budokai 3 before then I truly implore yo to go do so.
